Public Official Announcement

Forrest City, AR May 13,2024- Attention Youth, Parents, Citizens, Government officials and School Districts  in Eastern Arkansas, encompassing SFC, Lee, Monroe and Phillips counties.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Pathways to the Future (PTF) Urban Community Forestry  program in eastern Arkansas, initiated by the Arkansas Human Development Corporation (AHDC) in  partnership with Minorities in Conservation, and supported by strategic partners including the East Arkansas  Regional Youth Employment Initiative (EARYEI) and the Great Rivers Education Service Cooperative.

The PTF program is designed as a pilot initiative with a scalable strategy aimed at empowering individuals,  groups, and organizations in disadvantaged communities to actively participate in urban and community  forestry planning, planting, and management.

What to Expect: The PTF program will encompass two primary programmatic elements:

  1. Youth Summer Program: A comprehensive summer program designed to engage youth in hands-on  learning experiences related to urban forestry and conservation. Participants will have the opportunity to  develop essential skills, gain practical knowledge, and contribute to local environmental initiatives. Participants must be between the ages of 16 18 and be residents of Lee, Monroe, Phillips, or St.  Francis Counties. Participants will be paid $15 per hour (up to 26 hours per week)
  2. Youth Fall Program: Building upon the summer program, the fall program will continue to provide  youth with opportunities for further skill development, leadership training, and community engagement  activities focused on urban forestry and conservation.
